The Story Behind “Not About Fixing, All About Flourishing”

What if coaching is not about correcting weaknesses but about amplifying strengths? Here’s how my tagline came to life.

It was over a casual conversation with an acquaintance, someone well-established in his field, holding a senior position in his company, that the inspiration for my coaching tagline first emerged. As we spoke, the discussion naturally drifted towards leadership development and the ways he could further support his team’s growth.

When the topic of coaching arose, I asked him a simple yet revealing question: How do you see yourself benefiting from having a coach? His response was immediate, almost reflexive: I don’t have any behavioural issues, so why would I need coaching?

That moment struck me. His perception of coaching was clear: it was something remedial, reserved for those who were struggling or needed ‘fixing’. I saw an opportunity to shift this perspective.

I explained that coaching isn’t about correcting deficiencies; it is about amplifying strengths. It’s about taking a successful person and helping them become even better, unlocking their full potential in ways they might not have imagined. I shared real-life examples of top executives, elite athletes, and high achievers who continually work with coaches—not because they are broken, but because they aspire to reach new heights.

As our conversation progressed, I sensed that he began to see coaching in a new light. He acknowledged the perspective I shared, nodding thoughtfully and even expressing intrigue at the idea of continuous improvement. However, I could tell he was not fully convinced that he personally needed a coach. The idea resonated with him, but he was not yet ready to take that step.

That conversation was a turning point for me. It made me realise the importance of redefining the narrative around coaching. And from that realisation, my tagline was born: “Not about fixing, all about flourishing.”

Coaching is not a last resort or a form of damage control. It is a powerful tool for those who are ready to grow, excel, and truly flourish. This belief underpins everything I do as a coach, and I hope it inspires others to embrace coaching not as a remedy, but as a catalyst for greatness.

If you have ever wondered what more you could achieve with the right support, consider exploring coaching. It is not about solving problems, it’s about unlocking potential, refining strengths, and striving for continuous growth. Whether in leadership, career, or personal development, coaching offers the space to flourish beyond what you thought possible.
